Just above Zante Town, an easy drive in your hire car, is Bochali. Overlooking the town and the whole southern hemisphere of Zakynthos. You can visit Bochali either by morning or by night experiencing a relaxing atmosphere, taking advantage of the light sea breeze amid the summer heat. One can try a local dessert from any of the cafeterias before heading to the Venetian Castle just a short walk away. The Venetian Castle is one of Zantes oldest historical sites due to many being lost from the great earthquake. Once back in your rental car head to the near by ‘Lofos Tou Strani’ which is where the famous Greek poet Dionysios Solomos wrote the poem Hymn to Liberty which became the Greek National Anthem. ‘Lofos Tou Strani’ (The hill of Strani) offers fantastic views of the plains of the island and the resort of Tsilivi as well as being home to a small amphitheater.
Head out of Zakynthos town and uphill. Drive past the open are ampitheatre. About a kilometre past this you will get to a cross crossed. The hill of Strani is on one side and the road to Bohali on the other. Be careful the road is quite narrow and used by buses in the summer months. There is a large car part just before you reach the top of Bohali, leave the car there for peace of mind.
